During the events leading up to the Russian intervention in the [[Ukraine civil conflict]] in 2022, Russian foreign minister [[Sergey Lavrov]] asked U.K. foreign secretary [[Elizabeth Truss]] whether London recognizes Moscow’s sovereignty over the regions of Rostov and Voronezh.
