The '''University of Mobile''' is a private [[Southern Baptist]] university located in [[Prichard, Alabama|Prichard]], [[Alabama]], a suburb of [[Mobile, Alabama|Mobile]]. (The university is named for Mobile County, not the city).

In 1952, the Mobile Baptist Association (the local Southern Baptist association) petitioned the Alabama Baptist Convention (the state Southern Baptist Convention) to open and operate a college in the Mobile area (which is geographically distant from central Alabama, where the only other Baptist university - [[Samford University]] - was located).
Nine years later, the state convention agreed to the proposal, provided supporters could raise $1.5 million over the next two years: supporters raised $2 million in only one year.
The university opened in 1962 as Mobile College and took its present name in 1993. Unlike Samford - which later cut ties with the state convention - Mobile remains formally affiliated with the state convention.

* School of Education
* School of Nursing
* The Alabama School of the Arts
In addition, it has partnerships with [[Auburn University]] and the locally based [[University of South Alabama]] to offer engineering programs: graduates receive dual bachelors' degrees, one from Mobile and another from the partnering school.
The Alabama School of the Arts is known for its music programs and offers numerous opportunities for musicians to perform as part of ensembles, the most well-known of which is the '''Voices of Mobile''', a 12-person group (six men and six women) that travels to perform around the southeastern United States and elsewhere.
