On May 24, 2024 Bortnikov updated the status of the investigation: "We can already say with certainty that [[Ukraine's military intelligence]] has a direct relation to this attack", adding "We are recording the ongoing transfer of mercenaries and fighters of international terrorist organizations from the [[Middle East]], [[North Africa]] and [[Afghanistan]] to [[Ukraine]] in big groups with the assistance of [[NATO]] countries".
