It is responsible for developing and promoting the [[Republican Party Platform]], and also coordinating fundraising and election strategy. Every four years, in each presidential election year, the RNC is responsible for organizing and running the [[Republican National Convention]]. Its current chairman is [[Michael Whatley]], who at the request of the presumptive nominee [[Donald Trump]] began in this position in 2024 along with co-chair [[Lara Trump]].

According to [[conservative]]s and some on the anti-establishment left, the RNC attempted to block [[Donald Trump]] out of the 2015 Republican primaries.<ref>https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2015/7/23/1404968/-Republicans-fantasize-about-how-to-block-Donald-Trump-out-of-the-debate</ref><ref>https://thepoliticalinsider.com/breaking-trump-likely-to-be-banned-from-future-republican-debates/</ref><ref>https://www.salon.com/2015/09/20/how_gop_party_bosses_will_rig_the_system_to_keep_trump_from_winning_partner/</ref>
