Cleveland is a former administrative and ceremonial county in north-east England, formed in 1974 and replaced in the late 1990s by the districts of [[Hartlepool]], [[Stockton on Tees]], [[Middlesbrough]] and [[Redcasr & Cleveland]]. The first two of these have reverted to [[County Durham]] and the latter two to north [[Yorkshire]] for ceremonial purposes, but administratively are [[Unitary Authorities]]. Cleveland still exists for the purposes of policing and fire and civil defence. The area is highly industrial, with a number of chemical and steel works.
