'''Russian Americans''' are American people of whole or partial [[Russia]]n descent. Most of them are [[Orthodox Christian]]s. Similarly to [[Italian Americans]], [[Irish Americans]], American Jews, and [[Polish Americans]], Russian Americans are quite widespread in big cities of the [[Midwest]]ern or [[northeast]]ern [[United States]], such as Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York City, Buffalo, New Jersey, and some New England cities such as Boston, Hartford, and Providence. They can also be found in big cities elsewhere in the United States, and are also quite prevalent in [[Alaska]] based on the fact that Alaska was a colony of Russia. Many of them fled from Russia in the 19th century and later to avoid [[communism]], among other things.
