'''Windermere''' is the largest lake in [[England]], being over 11 miles in length although just under a mile wide. It forms a part of the [[Lake District]]. Part of the border between [[Westmorland]] and [[Lancashire]] (North Lonsdale) runs through the south-eastern and western shores.

 

There are two towns situated on Windermere: [[Ambleside]] and [[Bowness-on-Windermere]]. In addition, [[Windermere, Westmorland|Windermere]] lends its name to a small town, although Windermere town does not face the lake directly, lying around half a mile east of its shore.
