In a joint operation, Israel's Shin Bet and the IDF have killed three Hamas operatives involved in deadly attacks in the 1990s, security officials announced Monday. The men — Riyad Asila, Bassam Abu Sanina, and Mahmoud Sariya — were expelled to Gaza under the 2011 Gilad Shalit prisoner swap and had continued to plot attacks from the Strip. According to the statement, Asila and his cell were responsible for the 1998 murder of Israeli civilian Chaim Kerman in Jerusalem, and the 1996 killing of IDF Staff Sergeant Ehud (Udi) Tal at the Dothan Coordination and Liaison Administration. Canadian Special Envoy for Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combatting Antisemitism reports on nearly 800 antisemitic incidents in Ontario schools affecting 3,000 Jewish students.
The report documented 781 antisemitic incidents in Ontario K-12 schools, which affected about 3,000 Jewish students. More than 40% of antisemitic incidents involved Nazi salutes, such as assertions that Hitler should have "finished the job." Other chants included “F*** you Jews,” “Jews are vermin,” and “Jews are cheap.” Fewer than 60% of antisemitic incidents refered to Israel or the Israel-Hamas war.
Nearly one in six antisemitic incidents were initiated or approved by a teacher or involved a school-sanctioned activity. In one case, a teacher told a six-year-old girl that she was "half-human" because she had a Jewish parent.
49% of the incidents, or about half, were not investigated by the schools where they took place.
