The Jets were the first team from the AFL (at the time considered the weaker of the two professional football leagues) to win the Super Bowl, Super Bowl III (which was the first such game to actually be called "Super Bowl"; previously the game was known as "NFL-AFL Championship Game"), led in large part by their flamboyant quarterback, "Broadway" Joe Namath who "guaranteed" a win for the team.  It is their only win, and only appearance, in the Super Bowl, and their only league title of any sort. Almost certainly that game, the [[1969 Super Bowl]], was intentionally lost to the Jets for one of the biggest [[gambling]] payouts in the history of sports.
