Popular perception of Swansea/ Swansea Culture

Swansea is largely considered a town which does not adhere to biblical values by British popular culture. It is home to a large number of brothels (the frequenters of such being referred to as 'Swansea Jacks') and has one of the lowest rates of church attendance in Wales. Satanic rituals and even related murders are not unheard of, though few cases have been reported in recent years (the most prominent being in 1978). Several churches have even been converted into various types of businesses, including an Indian restaurant ('Miah's'), an arthouse film/ adult cinema and even a homosexual massage parlour.
The poet Dylan Thomas referred to Swansea as 'an ugly, sinful town'.
