In 1915, captained by Lieutenant Commander Henry Hugh Gordon Dacre Stoker D.S.O., R.N., AE2 was the first submarine to successfully penetrate the Dardanelles and enter the Sea of Marmara during the ill fated allied campaign on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey.
After six days in the Sea of Marmara she was sunk by the Turks and her crew captured.
