'Unknown Enemy: The Terror Group Most Israelis Don't Know—But Now Target—After Deadly Encounter'.
Key Incident: In November 2025, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) clashed with Al-Jama'ah Al-Islamiyyah (The Islamic Group) during a counterterrorism operation in Syria. The firefight resulted in six wounded Israeli soldiers, three seriously, marking a significant escalation against this under-the-radar group.
Group Overview: Al-Jama'ah Al-Islamiyyah is one of the Middle East's oldest and most active Sunni-Islamist terrorist organizations targeting Israel. Despite its potency, it remains largely unknown to most Israelis. The group operates independently but maintains close cooperation with Hezbollah and Hamas, amplifying its regional threat.
IDF Response: The encounter has prompted the IDF to designate the group as a priority target in Syria, shifting focus to neutralize its activities amid broader regional tensions.
