Dodd's namesake grandson, Monroe Dodd, III (1949-2026), a graduate of the [[University of Kansas]] at [[Lawrence]], was an American newspaperman who worked for five years at ''The Miami Herald'' and then spent most of his career at ''The Kansas City Times'' and, later, ''[[The Kansas City Star]],'' after the two papers merged. He was named managing editor of ''The Times'' in 1984 and served in various editing, leadership, and mentoring roles throughout his career. After his years in journalism, he continued telling stories of local history. He worked with the website of ''The Star'' and various book divisions, having written and edited numerous books about the region’s history, including the "Kansas City Then & Now" series.
