'''Lysippos'''' (also spelled '''Lysippus''') was one of the most celebrated sculptors of ancient Greece and the official court sculptor of [[Alexander the Great]]. Active during the 4th century BC, Lysippos worked in bronze and was renowned for transforming Greek sculpture through new proportions, dynamic poses, and lifelike realism.

He was considered one of the Three Great Sculptors of Classical Greece, alongside [[Phidias]] and [[Praxiteles]].

=Life and Career=
Lysippos was born in [[Sicyon]], a prominent artistic center in the [[Peloponnese]]. According to ancient writers, he was originally a bronze worker who trained himself in sculpture. His career flourished during the reign of [[Philip II of Macedon]] and especially under [[Alexander the Great]], who appointed him as his exclusive portrait sculptor.

Ancient sources state that Alexander allowed only [[Lysippos]] to portray him in bronze, believing that Lysippos alone captured his character and heroic bearing.
