==History and League Title Success==
Their history dates back to 1898; in 1920 they were one of the original franchises of what is now the NFL as the Chicago Cardinals (the Cardinals and the [[Chicago Bears]] are the only two teams from the NFL's charter season to remain in operation). In Chicago, they won one NFL championship (1947), but generally they were a poorly performing team (in 1944, due to a lack of available players during World War II, they were temporarily merged with the [[Pittsburgh Steelers]] to form "Card-Pitt", mockingly called the "Carpets", fitting for a combined team finishing 0-10).

Unable to compete against the more successful cross-town rival [[Chicago Bears]], the team relocated to St. Louis in 1960, keeping their nickname (not to be confused with the more successful baseball team of the same name). The team did not do much better there, advancing to the playoffs only three times and never hosting or winning any games.
