UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has drawn criticism from Jewish and pro-Israel organizations after defending the British Green Party's decision to adopt a policy declaring that “Zionism is racism[sic]", the Jewish Chronicle reported.

Albanese, who serves as the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian territories and has frequently criticized Israel, addressed the controversy during a discussion with Israeli-British historian Avi Shlaim at St Antony's College, Oxford, on Monday.

Speaking about the policy adopted by the Green Party under Zack Polanski's leadership, Albanese praised the party for “doing something extremely human".

Alex Hearn, co-director of Labour Against Antisemitism, pointed to Albanese's previous statements about Jewish influence in American politics.

Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana rejected accusations that Israel was committing genocide, in a speech he gave on Thursday in Rome to parliamentary leaders at a Council of Europe gathering.

“Israel is not committing genocide. Enough with this despicable lie,” Ohana said, adding, “Today we face a severe crisis of courage on the international stage. Many world leaders proclaim the importance of their values. Yet when the moment of truth arrives, only a few are willing to defend them.”

During the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023, massacre, “the deadliest day for the Jews since the Holocaust, there was no ‘NAZA,’ no collateral damage,” he said, referencing a recently released documentary that accused Israeli authorities of indifference to civilian deaths during the war against Hamas in Gaza.

“Innocent civilians, women, children, babies, even, were not caught in the crossfire. They were the targets,” Ohana said about the Palestinian invasion from Gaza in which terrorists killed more than 1,200 people.

Ohana also recalled the genocide of Jews in Europe as he held up several thick books.

The Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday killed two terrorists in the Khan Yunis area of southern Gaza, both of whom were involved in smuggling weapons into the Strip, the military said on Thursday.

The Israeli government issued a clarification on Thursday, hours after the U.S.-backed Board of Peace said the Jewish state had suspended private-sector goods coordination into Gaza.

Nickolay Mladenov, the board’s high representative for Gaza, wrote on Thursday morning that he received a letter from the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, or COGAT, an Israeli Defense Ministry unit that implements civilian policy and manages logistics in the Gaza Strip and in Judea and Samaria.

He said the letter referred to “the suspension of private-sector goods coordination into Gaza as a result of reports of threats and coercion by Hamas.”
