Exotheology, or UFO religion, refers to the (imaginary) theology of (imaginary) extraterrestrial beings. This requires a strong form of belief in life in outer space: it implies not only that life in outer space somehow exists, but that it is intelligent and even has a theology of its own.

Exotheology was pursued by [[liberals]] in the 1960s through 1970s. Most scientists in the late 1970s, such as President [[Jimmy Carter]]'s [[Carl Sagan]], believed in intelligent life in outer space. "Scientists today generally assume, and the mathematical probabilities favor, the existence of intelligent life among the myriad planets wheeling through the cosmos."<ref>[http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,916129,00.html Time magazine Apr. 24, 1978]</ref>
