When Sarah could not conceive, she gave her handmaid Hagar to Abraham to have children. Hagar become pregnant and gave birth to [[Ishmael]]. (Genesis 16:1-9). In time Sarah also conceived and had her son [[Isaac]]. She became upset at Hagar and her son Ishmael and had Abraham banish them. Hagar feared for her life, but God told her not to worry, that he would make a great nation from her son Ishmael as well. (Genesis 21: 1-18)
