His descendents were one of the [[Twelve Tribes of Israel]]. In [[Jacob]]'s deathbed blessing, he said of Gad: <blockquote>Gad will be attacked by a band of raiders, but he will attack them at their heals. (Gen 49:19) </blockquote>
