'''Saint Alban''' lived in the 2nd or 3rd century. He was a [[pagan]] living in the Roman-British city of Verulamium and was converted to [[Christianity]] through the witness of a priest he was sheltering. When the house was searched, Alban dressed in the priest's clothes and was executed in his place. He was the first recorded British [[martyr]]. Verulamium was renamed St. Alban in his honor.
