He had a much publicized feud with [[Murphy Brown]], who was a fictional single mother. Dan Quayle said that she was immoral and there was a big fight in the media. Quayle was criticized for debating the lifestyle of a person who did not actually exist. He was also criticised for misspelling "[[potato]]" as "potatoe," but is remembered as a loyal Republican and loyal conservative in hindsight, advocating a conservative agenda and for traditional values.
Quayle was the first chairman of the National Space Council and the head of the Council on Competitiveness.
