The Cold war is over and is no longer needed. Now we have the War on Terror to take its place. Besides that Russians didn't call themselves communists. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics never was communist, was it? It's socialistic just like the EU is today. Whatever their politics are though isn't what makes Russia a threat these days. It's their alliances with China, Iran, and Syria. All of those nuclear plants in Iran are mostly Russian designs. Socialism has been adopted by most western countries so that Russian socialism is no longer a threat to the West. What ended the Cold War was when the West adopted socialism in 1992. The trends in Russia have gone dramatically toward the left, and democracy is taking a step back again. Especially after the events involving Russia and Britain of the last two days, and of the missile issue... I really think that we're looking at a possible Cold War II.
