I deleted "Franz" from Joseph Haydn. I had got the name sans-Franz from a poster I used as a reference, so I double checked, and although I hate to use it as a ref here, WP explains that the Franz was never used in his lifetime and that scholars have been referring to him simply as "Joseph Haydn". This oft quoted urban legend never seems to mention that modern conductors had tended to play the 9th at about 90bpm whereas Beethoven scored it as ''allegro'' suggesting upwards of 140bpm. Sir Roger Norrington found both favor and disdain when he tenaciously stuck to the higher of these values. His tenors in the second half of the choral had trouble keeping up with the orchestra, to be sure, but the passion which Beethoven intended shone through brilliantly. Played as such a tempo the CD could easily hold all of the ninth of a single disc @ 68 minutes and change. [[User_talk:U2| U2]] 00:02, 25 July 2007 (EDT)
