She fell in love with a shepherd prince called Endymion. Having learned from her sister [[Eos]] not to ask for immortality for her lover, she asked Zeus to grant him eternal youth but in a state of eternal sleep so that he would never leave her. He was placed in a cave near the peak of Mount Latmos in Lydia and Eos descended to consort with him in the night.
