Gladys Aylward (1902-1975) was a British missionary from London who went to the Shanxi Province in China between the years of the Sino-Russian War (in 1930) and the Rise of Communism (in 1945). She was famous for leading 94 children from Yangcheng to Xi'an across mountains while avoiding Japanese soldiers while keeping the children fed, clothed, and warm while also carrying 4 different fatal diseases at the same time.
