Changes

'''Severus Snape''' is a Hogwarts teacher in the ''[[Harry Potter]]'' novels. He teaches potions but wants to become Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher so that he can eventually change the class into just the Dark Arts and become a powerful dark wizard. However Quirrell, another character, teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts. Snape is also head of Slytherin House, one of the four Hogwarts houses in the series. Snape is a ruthless bully as teacher and hates Harry Potter with a passion. He shows favoritism, consistently undermining efforts of students from other houses in his classes while consistently supporting efforts of students from his own house. His favorite student is Harry's nemesis Draco Malfoy. In the first novel Snape is suspected by Harry of wanting to steal a stone that creates immmortality for its user, but it end up that actually Snape was trying to protect the stone and the traitor was Quirrell, who was possessed by the evil Lord Voldemort. Quirrell fights Harry but Voldemort flees and Quirrell dies. Harry wins and wakes up the next day in the hospital wing with Dumbledore. JK Rowling has said that Snape is based on a cruel teacher she had and is intended to illustrate the fact that many teachers abuse their power, which Snape does. He is played in the movies by Alan Rickman.
