Guy Fawkes was born on April 13, 1570 in Stonegate, Yorkshire. He was an English soldier and part of the [[Roman Catholic]] group who tried to act on the [[Gunpowder Plot]] on November 5th. The plot was to assassinate the [[Protestant]] rulers of [[England]], including King James I and the whole of [[Parliament]], by blowing up the Westminster palace during the opening session of Parliament in 1605. Fawkes was caught before he could put this plan into action. He was interrogated through torture. Normally torture would have been forbidden, but James I decided that the country was at war and therefore torture was acceptable. Fawkes was ultimately was put to death along with his co-conspirators for treason and attempted murder. He died on January 31, 1606, by being hanged, drawn and quartered.

His death is celebrated in England every year on [[Guy Fawkes Day]], celebrating the death of the only man ever to enter Parliament with honest intentions.
