He was an influential member of the [[Continental Congress]], and a signer of the [[Declaration of Independence]]. A [[Virginian]], Mason wrote the [[Virginia Declaration of Rights]], upon which the later U.S. [[Bill of Rights]] would be based. Mason was instrumental in convincing the [[Constitutional Congress]] to include the Bill of Rights to the [[Constitution]]. Mason was a close friend of [[George Washington]], but was an [[Antifederalist]] along with others like [[Patrick Henry]] and [[Thomas Jefferson]] (Washington did not believe in parties, but his policies put him in the [[Federalist Party|Federalist]] camp).
