The '''Battle of Passchendale''' was also known as the Third Battle of Ypres. This third battle was fought in Ypres, [[Belgium]] which had seen two previous battles, one in 1914 and one one 1915. The Third Battle of Ypres lasted 18 months beginning in 1917. In this battle the [[United Kingdom|British]] hid 19 huge land mines underneath the [[Germany|German]] lines. Unfortunately for the British, once the land mines exploded, the British did not move fast enough and became bogged down by the ensuing rain. This battle ended as another failure for the Allies.

This battle ended as another stalemate for the Allies.  The battle had become another instance of Generals fighting current battles with old tactics at horrific losses.
