Equivalent Fractions are fractions which are equal to the same value.  1/2 and 2/4 are equivalent fractions because 1/2 = 0.5 and 2/4 = 0.5.

Equivalent Fractions aren't limited to those with equivalent decimal representations, either.  For example, the [[transcendental]] numbers, such as (pi)/2 and 2(pi)/4 are also equivalent, even though their decimal representations are theoretically incomparable.
