Carthage was an ancient city on the coast of northern Africa near modern day Tunis.  It began as a colony of the [[Phoenicians]] and eventually became powerful enough to compete with [[Rome]]. One of the most famous Carthagians was Hannibal, who enjoyed travelling to the Alps with his elephants. There was also St Cyprian of Carthage, a bishop who got his head chopped off by the Romans.
