Hamdi v. Rumsfeld is a 2002 Supreme court case concerning the authority of the President to detain enemy combatants. The petitioner, an American citizen named Hamdi, was caught in Afghanistan, supposedly fighting with the Taliban. He was held in a naval Brig in Charleston, South Carolina, but later the Supreme Court ruled that he should have had due process of Law.
