One of Trotsky's famous quotes (which also sums up the Atheism in the Communist Movement) was : "Religions are illogical primitive ignorance. There is nothing as ridiculous and tragic as a religious government."

Trotsky's Atheism
  −
Like most Marxists, Trotsky was an avowed atheist. During World War I, a Russian pilot was flying through dense clouds above Ararat when he spotted what appeared to be the remains of a very large wooden structure. When he returned to base, he informed Czar Nicholas of his find, and Czar Nicholas ordered a scientific investigation which immediately resulted in promising archaeological evidence that Noah's Ark did indeed lie ruined on the sides of the mountain. Unfortunately, the Czar was soon disposed of by the Bolsheviks, and all of the evidence gathered by the expedition was given to Trotsky who either hid or disposed of it, knowing that the find would undermine the Dialectic Materialism from which Communism derived its social theories.
