Enhancing the background knowledge of a presidential candidate to ensure America has an informed electorate
Barack Obama is a Democratic Senator from Illinois, elected to the United States Senate in 2004 after serving as a state Senator. He is a candidate and Democtratic front-runner for the 2008 United States Presidential election. Though currently behind Senator Hillary Clinton in the democratic polls, he has made great strides, overtaking the black vote and landing, as of March 10, 2007, less than ten points behind. Additionally, he beats out the Republican cadidates in a poll of the general election, with the exception of Guiliani, although he still does comparably better than Clinton given his broader range of appeal. It is expected that by he primaries of 2008, he will be a sure bet for the democratic primary, and a fierce contender for the Presidential election, whoever his counterpart. == Political Work ==Though not a member of the Senate during the [[Iraq war]] vote in 2002, he stated in an interview of October of that year that he would have voted against the war resolution, a statement that has served him well in his later political career, having stood by his decision and recognized the idiocity of the war from the start. Collaberating with Republican Senator [[John McCain]], who is also seeking his parties nommination, each has pledged that if they receive their parties nomination for president, and the opposer acquieces, they will limit their campaign finaces to $85 million, returning all other private donations. This has been widely stated as evidence of the two esteemed congressman trying to bring civility back into the realm of poltics and assuage partisan tensions. Others have gone farther to say that such impeccable moral character is just one of the many qualties that shows that Barack Obama, for the good of America and, indeed, the world, should be the next President of the United States.
== Personal Life ==
Obama was born in Hawaii August 4 1961 AD. His father was a Kenyan former farmer, and his mother a US citizen from Kansas. His parents divorced when he was two, and Obama's mother remarried to an Indonesian man and relocated the family to Jakarta. From age ten he lived in Hawaii with his maternal grandparents, where he completed his schooling in 1979. Obama has a Doctorate Of Laws from Harvard University and a BA from Columbia University. Until he entered politics in the 1990's, he was a senior lecturer in constitutional law at the University of Chicago.
