United States President [[Grover Cleveland]] sent political veteran [[James Henderson Blount]] over to the island to investigate the overthrow of the monarchy. Blount failed to swear in witnesses, wouldn't speak to many involved in the revolution, and then released the Blount Report which blamed the entire upheal on a secret American plot to invade Hawaii. Congress decided to take up the matter and a bipartisan team went to work interviewing the participants including those that Blount refused to contact. They found that the United States had no role in the revolution. Nevertheless, to this day the Blount Report is sighted by Hawaiian separatists.
