The training ship of the California Maritime Academy is known as the Training Ship Golden Bear (T.S. Golden Bear, or TSGB). The current TSGB is the third ship to have this name (but the fourth training ship of the school overall). Her previous name was USNS Maury (T-AGS 39) and was built in 1989 by Bethlehem Steel Corporation at Sparrows Point, Maryland<ref name="globsec">http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/tags-39.htm</ref>. She was transferred and converted to a training ship in September 1994<ref name="globsec"/>.
