'''Merry''' is one of the four [[hobbit]]s of the [[Fellowship of the Ring]], along with [[Frodo]], [[Sam]], and [[Pippin]]. Merry is more honest and courageous than Pippin, although it was Pippin who befriended [[Treebeard]], without whose help Aragorn would surely have died at [[Helm's Deep]]. Like Pippin, Merry became a king's squire, serving [[Theoden]] and accompanying a Rider of Rohan to the decisive battle in which the greatest of the Nine Riders was killed by Eowyn.
