Recent claims by a British Conservative London Assembly member that Heath was advised in the 1950s to stop seeking sex in men's public lavatories (Brian Coleman writing in the New Statesman Magazine) has been denied by his successor in his constituency Derek Conway, who succeeded Heath in 2001. The British Conservative party has been seeking to reposition itself regarding homosexuality, which may motivate this original allegation, although it is difficult to see what knowledge either protagonist would have of events of 50 years previously.
