The '''Battle of Passchendale''' was also known as the Third Battle of Ypres. This third battle was fought in Ypres, [[Belgium]] which had seen two previous battles, one in 1914 and one one 1915. The Third Battle of Ypres lasted 18 months beginning in 1917 was was to relieve pressure from the French trops who had low morale after their own terrible losses of the [[Nivelle Offensive]].

In this battle the [[United Kingdom|British]] hid 19 huge land mines underneath the [[Germany|German]] lines. Unfortunately for the British, once the land mines exploded, the British did not move fast enough and became bogged down by the ensuing rain.
