I take it that you are referring to the following recent reverts
1.Heading in France article "Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys"- the substantive content to this heading was not reverted.
Originally I wanted to put the Rumsfeld quote in the Rumsfeld section , but it is locked. I am unaware of the derivation of "cheese-eating" , but the French involvement in World War II bears out the latter part, especially in the actions of Vichy in fighting harder against the Allies than they ever fought for them, even in places such as Madagascar and Syria, where there were no other Axis forces. The bulk of the "Free French" were in the Foreign Legion or colonial troops (such as the Tahitians who fought in the Western Desert campaign.The French Resistance would have been described by the Germans as a gang of Communists and gangsters. The fact that this was true has been obscured by Allied propaganda promoting Colonel De Gaulle as a more significant figure than he was. Even the French troops evacuated from Dunkirk wanted to go back and fight against the British.
2. UK relations with USA regarding UK radar stations supporting "son of Star Wars".
I think I should start a separate article on this. The bare facts are that the missile defense system designed to put down incoming (Russian)ICBMs requires a radar picket outside this "umbrella"- which is in the UK. Consequently, should the Russians ever wish to do this the first thing they have to do is hit the radar station. An good comparison is the role played by HMS Sheffield in the Falklands- which was sunk by the Argentine Air Force. Now I do not blame the Americans for this - their actions are entirely rational, (should they wish to carry out such a program), but what motivates Gordon Brown's Government has never been stated. Unless there is a some kind of pressure or bribe involved a willingness to invite a pre-emptive strike on your own country for no apparent reason is almost beyond parody. Hence my contribution was really entirely serious but peerhaps a separate entry would clarify this.
