A devout Christian, Gauss was one of the first mathematicians to prove the fundamental theorem of algebra, which holds that every polynomial over the complex numbers must have at least one root.  Gauss also collaborated with physicist [[Wilhelm Weber]] tho help discover magnetism and define it in terms of mass, length and time.
