'''Aden''' is a strategically-important port city of the Republic of [[Yemen]], located at the mouth of the [[Red Sea]]. Between 1967 and 1990 it was the capital city of the [[People's Democratic Republic of Yemen]], before that state merged with the existing Republic of Yemen (North Yemen) and San'a became capital of the united country.

From 1886 to 1967 Aden and its hinterland had formed a British Protectorate, and British forces fought an ultimately unsuccessful campaign against pro-independence insurgents from 1962 to 1967.
