Liberals cite the equal prevalence of STDs among teens who have undertaken abstinence pledges as the reason for their opposition. A study presented to the 2004 National STD Prevention Conference showed that whilst teens who take abstinence pledges do, on average, have sex at an older age, they have a similar rate of STDs.
