Perhaps the most famous sporting event associate with Oxford, however, is the University Boat race, which takes place every year, normally in March, between the [[University of Oxford]] (the "light blues") and the [[University of Cambridge]] (the "Dark Blues"). It is a rowing race for "eights" and happens on the [[Thames River]] in [[London]]. The boat race is an occasion for students and alumni of each of the two famous univereities to cheer on their team, and there have been many incidents dui=ring the race including several occasions when one of the boats has sank.
