I think Huckabee's failure isn't so much about political shifts, as it is about a shift to a more Godless society in general. It's hard to sell politics to a generation that doesn't read the Bible and pray every day - very hard. Huckabee - although he tried to make the debate about policy rather than his beliefs, couldn't avoid it, and I think - although I despair of it if I'm right - that ultimately his beliefs were not acceptable to the majority of Republicans, let alone Americans in general.
