Girvan in a small resort town in [[Ayrshire]], [[Scotland]], located on the [[Firth of Clyde]] facing [[Ailsa Crag]], a prominent rocky outcrop in the Firth. Originally a small village, Girvan expanded in the 1830s to accommodate linen and cotton weavers for the then-booming Scottish textiles industry; as this faded, it became a resort for families from the industrial towns and cities of west-central Scotland.
