Massachusetts was the only state in which a majority voted for George McGovern instead of Richard Nixon in the [[United States presidential election of 1972]]; even McGovern's home state of [[South Dakota]] rejected him, yet '''Massachusetts liberals''' thought he was just fine.

Interestingly enough, The General Laws of Massachusetts, chapter 272, section 34, states: "Whoever commits the abominable and detestable [[crime against nature]], either with mankind or with a beast, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than twenty years."  This was presumably written in a more conservative era.<ref>http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/272-34.htm</ref>
