According to ''Genesis'', Adam (Hebrew  '''אָדָם''')was the first human being on the planet. The Lord made him out of His own image and loved him even after he disobeyed Him. His wife was named [[Eve]].

According to Jewish tradition they had 56 children. Christians consider Adam and Eve to be the father and mother of the human race. As such they must have had daughters for Cain and Seth to marry (Abel died by an act of [[murder]] and is not recorded to have had any issue) so as to ensure that the human race was true to God's command to be fruitful and to muliply throughout the earth.<ref>{{Bible ref|book=Genesis|chap=1|verses=28|version=NASB}}</ref> This was not bad or sinful because this was the pre-Flood world.
