Motives for the attacks were supposedly American's foreign policy towards Israel, sanctions against Iraq and the consistent presence of American troops in the Middle east, as defined by Osama Bin Laden.

Motives for the attacks have been the increase in Fundamentalist Christians in the United States, and thus the Fundamentalist Muslims had wanted to start a "holy war". Luckily, the president declared a counter war called the "War on Terrorism" before any holy war started.

Many Sikhs in America were mistaken for Muslims due to their turbans and often were verbally and occasionally physically abused. In one case, a gas station owner, Balbir Singh Sodhi was shot dead.
