''Please'' don't question me.  I know these things.  Michelangelo is an ''Italian'' name.  The vowel combination "ae" does not even exist in the Italian Language!  "Michael" is the English spelling of the Italian name "Michele"... which are both spelled and pronounced differently.  Thus, not only is "Michelangelo" the correct spelling, but "Mee-keh-LAHN-jeh-loh" is the correct pronounciation.
